Farmers Protest New Trade Deal

Farmers in Europe are not happy. They do not like a new trade deal. Farmers recently protested in Nicosia. They are worried about a trade deal with Mercosur.

Many people came to the protest. Farmers, students, and friends of nature were there. They think the deal will hurt European farming. Small farms are very worried.

Farmers gave a paper to EU leaders. They want the EU to think again about the deal. They also want help for European farmers. The EU Court is looking at the deal. But the deal can be used now.

Farmers think the deal does not help them. They worry about food like halloumi cheese. They believe more imported food is bad. It is harder for the EU to feed itself. They also think big countries get more help. Small farms may have problems.

Farmers do not think shoppers will get help. They think shops and middlemen will get more money. They also worry about food safety. Imported food might not be safe. This could be bad for people.

A leader, Giorgos Georgiou, agrees. He said EU rules are not enough. He wants fair trade. He wants more open talks. People worry the deal will last for a long time.

If the deal does not change, there will be problems. People's rights may change. Farming may become more unfair. People may not be as well. The EU Court is still deciding. The protests show it is hard to balance trade and help.
