A new report says Cyprus is the worst country in the European Union for equality between men and women. At the same time, a worker with a disability says he did not get a promotion because of his disability.
The report looked at work, money, and time at home. Cyprus has a very big problem with personal time. Women do much more housework and care for family than men. This is true even though more women in Cyprus work and finish university than in other EU countries.
The country's Gender Equality Commissioner said the goal is equal chances for everyone. But old ideas mean women have less free time. Also, women often work in different jobs than men, even with good education.
In a different case, a man with a mobility disability says his workplace did not promote him. The Ombudswoman asked the workplace to explain. She said employers must help people with disabilities at work.
These two stories show Cyprus has big challenges with equality. The country's laws promise equality, but real life is different for many women and people with disabilities.
