Two recent events show different ways of dealing with drug traffickers.
In Mexico, security forces killed a major fentanyl trafficker. The man, Pedro Inzunza Coronel, was in a powerful drug cartel in Sinaloa. His group sent a lot of fentanyl to the United States. Last year, police took more than 1.65 tons of fentanyl from his network. The United States also charged him and his father with serious crimes.
At the same time, a former U.S. president made a promise. Donald Trump said he would free a convicted drug trafficker if he becomes president again. The trafficker is Juan Orlando Hernández, the former president of Honduras. A U.S. court found him guilty last year for helping to move hundreds of tons of cocaine. He is now in prison for 45 years. This promise surprised and worried many police officials.
These two stories show that the fight against drugs is not simple.
