New Power Plant Worries Cyprus

A new power plant in Turkey is almost ready. It is called Akkuyu. It will start working in 2026.

People in Cyprus are worried. They are concerned about their health. The plant is close to Cyprus. It is only 65 kilometres away.

A group called OPOK is worried. They say Turkey has not shared enough. They also say Turkey is not following a rule. This rule is about countries working together. OPOK thinks nuclear power is not safe.

Cyprus is checking the environment. They are looking for radiation. They have stations to check the sea.

Akkuyu is near an area with earthquakes. This is a worry. The plant will use warm sea water. This could harm sea animals. Nuclear waste is also a problem.

If there is an accident, it will be bad. It could harm people and jobs. Cyprus and Turkey are still talking.
