Cyprus officials have a new plan for prisons. They will not build a new prison for young people. Instead, they will help the main prison. The Justice Minister said a new prison for youth will now be for older people. Young people will stay in a smaller part of the main prison.
This change happened because the new youth prison took too long. The first plan was for a big prison for 128 young people. But this big plan had to stop. This helps the busy main jail. The place for migrants and young people will now be for adults.
The main prison has too many people. This is a big problem. Using the new place for adults will make more space. Also, a special area for young people will move. This will give more room.
There are not many young people in prison. It is usually fifteen to twenty. A big new prison was not needed. The new plan keeps young people safe. They will stay away from older criminals. This area will be outside the main part of the prison.
