Cyprus Hospitals Are Very Busy

Hospitals in Cyprus are full. Many people are sick with flu. This makes breathing problems worse for many. Emergency rooms are very busy. Doctors may change some planned surgeries. This makes people worry.

About 90% of beds are used. Many patients come from old people's homes. Some have bad breathing. They need special care. These patients stay longer.

Nurses and doctors work hard. Panagiotis Savva said, "We see the pressure." Ambulances wait outside. There are not enough beds. Some wait two days for a bed.

To help, officials are thinking. They may stop some small surgeries. This can make more beds free. The health ministry may get more beds from other hospitals.

Charalambos Charilaou said, "We help all emergency cases." He wants people to know this. Serious cases get help. Health people watch the situation.

This problem shows health systems can be weak. We need to be ready. The next few days are important.
