Cyprus: Trees Cut, Old Things Found

The mountains and a park in Cyprus have problems. They also have old, important things. People worry about trees cut in a special mountain area. In the park, old stone tools are found. But building roads there makes people worried. These things make people talk about nature.

In the mountains, old pine trees were cut. About ten to twenty trees were cut in January. A worker used a truck. Some government people were there too. This was in a protected place. It is not known if they had permission. A leader said this is about trust.

In the park, old things are found. Archaeologists found many stone tools. These tools are very old, from 12,000 to 8,000 years ago. Experts are studying them. They think the tools help us learn about old life. The government said the finds are good.

But roads are being built in the park. A group called Friends of Akamas is worried. They say roads hurt the nature zone. They also think roads bring more cars. The government is checking the road plans. They also need more park workers. People are watching this closely. The future of the park is not clear.
