The government in Cyprus has ended a new checkpoint rule. The rule was very short. It made Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots wait in different lines at the border.
This border is called the Green Line. It divides the island. Officials said the different lines helped them check people's identities. They wanted to see if a person was from Cyprus.
But many people did not like the rule. A politician, Alexandra Attalidou, said it was unfair and against the law. She said it treated people differently because of their community. This made tensions worse on the divided island.
After this, the Justice Minister said the government stopped the rule. He said it was only for identification. But the government changed the rule quickly after the questions.
This event shows that even small actions at the border are very important in Cyprus. Crossing the line is not just a simple process.
