Two Mayors Stop Work

Two town mayors in Cyprus are not working now. This is because police are looking into them. The government said this on Wednesday. This rule is to keep people in charge honest.

Mayor Phedonos Phedonos of Paphos is being looked into. A person said he did something bad to her a long time ago. Mayor Pieris Gypsiotis of Lefkoniko is also being looked into. He is accused of bad actions at home.

A law says leaders must stop working if they are accused of big crimes. This helps people trust the government. The mayors will get some money. If they are not guilty, they can do their job again. If they are guilty, they will lose their job.

Police started looking into the Paphos mayor. The police finished looking into the Lefkoniko mayor. Court cases may start in 2026.

This is the first time this new law is used. It shows that leaders must follow strict rules.
