The government of Cyprus has changed a new law about public protests. They did this because many people and an international group, the OSCE, said the law was not good.
The old law was made in July. It gave the police a lot of power to stop protests. Many groups were unhappy. They said it was too strict. The OSCE agreed. They said the law limited people's right to protest peacefully.
A politician, Irene Charalambides, wrote a new bill with the OSCE's ideas. The government also wrote a new bill. In a meeting, they saw the two bills were very similar. The committee decided to use these ideas to change the law.
The new changes will limit police power. For example, police can only ask people to remove face coverings if there is violence. Also, protest organizers will not be responsible for problems they did not cause. The government will discuss all the changes in January and then vote.
This shows that international opinion can help change laws. It was a win for protest rights.
