Mine Collapse In Congo

A sad thing happened in eastern Congo. A mine fell down. About 200 people died. Helpers think more people may be dead. The mine is called Rubaya. It is a coltan mine. Coltan is used for phones.

The mine fell when it rained a lot. The ground was not strong. People saw the earth fall fast. Many miners were there. Children and sellers were also there. A helper said over 200 people died. This included miners, children, and women. About 20 people are hurt. They are getting help.

The Rubaya mine is near Goma. It gives coltan to the world. This is used for computers too. Local people worked there. They did not get much money. A group took the mine this year. This makes helping harder.

We do not know why the mine fell. The rain was strong. It made a big slide of earth. This slide went through the mine. One miner said rain came first. Then the earth slide took people. Some people were buried. Others are still stuck. The bad weather made it very unsafe. We do not know the full number of dead.

People are trying to help now. But the ground is still unsafe. It is risky for the helpers. One advisor said 227 people died. This is very sad for the people there. It shows mining can be very dangerous. It is more dangerous with bad weather and fighting. The world may get less coltan later. Now, people want to help those hurt.
