Tax Office Looks at Former Minister

The Tax Office in Cyprus is looking into George Lakkotrypis. He was a minister for energy. The office checks money he did not tell them about. They also check his jobs after being a minister.

This started because of a scandal called "videogate." Secret videos showed Mr. Lakkotrypis talking about money. He said he got money for energy work. Some payments were said to be in cash. But he said he was paid by bank.

The Tax Office is checking his money reports. They want to know if he paid tax. They also check rules for new jobs. Former ministers need permission. This is for two years after they leave. Mr. Lakkotrypis left in 2020.

The Tax Commissioner will check everything. If he owes tax, he could pay more. He might also go to prison.
