Cyprus Talks Stuck, No Big Meetings Soon

Hopes for Cyprus are not high now. A recent meeting showed talks are not moving. This makes the UN boss sad. The UN helper, Maria Angela Holguin, said no big UN meetings will happen. This is because real steps are needed first.

The talks near the airport did not help. President Nikos Christodoulides has a plan. It has five points. He wants negotiators to meet soon. He will also help the Turkish Cypriot people.

But, there is a problem with the steps. Tufan Erhurman thinks trust must come first. Talks to join the island should start later. The other side wants to agree on starting talks at a big meeting. Some ideas, like new ways to cross, were liked. But they did not happen. This big difference stopped all progress.

The UN boss is very worried. He said trust steps must help everyone. He told his helper UN meetings will wait. They will wait until trust steps clearly help. The helper agreed. She said real things must happen first. This is a problem and may keep the island split.
