The parliament in Cyprus is talking about a problem. There are not enough guide dogs for blind people. More than 2,000 people cannot see well. But only five dogs help them. This makes life hard for them. A group met to find answers. They want blind people to get guide dogs.
Blind people in Cyprus have trouble moving. They also find it hard to be free. Guide dogs help them travel safely. They also help them meet others. Training a guide dog costs much money. It costs about €25,000 for two years. This is too much for many people. There are also problems with dog papers. This is why there are not enough dogs.
They have two ideas. One idea is that blind people have a right to a guide dog. This means they can go everywhere with their dog. An MP named Christos Senekis said dogs are needed. He said they are not just for fun. They help people move and be free. The dog helps the person feel more happy.
Another idea is to check the dogs. This will make sure dogs are trained well. It will also punish places that say no to guide dogs. Cyprus wants to follow world rules. These rules are for people with problems.
The head of the group, Irini Charalambides, said the government must help. She said the country should pay for guide dogs. One plan is approved a little. They will talk more about it. The other plan will be voted on soon. These talks can help many blind people.
