Cyprus and Migration: Two Different Stories

Cyprus is an island country in the European Union (EU). It has two different stories about migration.

First, the government says it is controlling the borders well. The number of people arriving without permission fell by 87% from 2022 to 2025. Officials say this is because of stronger rules.

But, the EU says Cyprus is still under big pressure. Because of this, the EU plans to give Cyprus money and help in 2026.

The second story is about legal migrant workers. For example, there are about 20,000 people from Nepal in Cyprus. Many are women who work in homes. Their lives can be very difficult. They sometimes have problems with pay, long hours, and their health. The Nepali Consul in Cyprus says the system is not good. He explained that if a worker dies, it is very hard and expensive to send their body home.

So, Cyprus has one story about border control, and another story about helping the migrants who already live there.
