Cyprus Needs More Water

Cyprus has a big water problem. There is not enough water for everyone. The water in big tanks is very low. It is only 11% full. Last year, it was 26% full. This is a serious problem.

The government is using special plants. These plants make sea water into clean water. This is called desalination. The Minister Maria Panayiotou said the problem is sad. Some rain came, but not enough.

More water plants will start soon. Two new plants will work in Limassol. They will make more clean water each day. This will help with 80% of the island's needs.

People are asked to use less water. Golf courses cannot use tap water. Cyprus needs much more water. Desalination helps now. But Cyprus needs other long-term plans for water. The weather is getting drier.
