Cyprus and Lebanon Agree on Sea Border

Cyprus and Lebanon have signed an important agreement. They have now set a permanent border in the sea between their countries. They signed the agreement in Beirut, Lebanon's capital.

This process was very long and difficult. The two countries first agreed on a sea border in 2007, but Lebanon’s government never approved it. Now, the new agreement can start without this approval. This was an important change.

For Lebanon, this is very good news. The country is in a big economic crisis. The agreement will allow companies to search for oil and gas under the sea. This could help Lebanon's economy.

Cyprus also benefits. Its president said the deal is historic and helps regional stability. Lebanon's president agreed and hopes it brings cooperation and prosperity.

Turkey does not agree with the deal. Turkey does not accept Cyprus's right to make such agreements. Cyprus says it is acting under international law.

The agreement happens during a time of high tension in the region. However, it shows that diplomacy can still work.
