Hotel Fell Down After Big Earthquake

A court in Turkey let six people go free. These people worked for the government before. They were blamed for the Isias hotel falling down. A big earthquake caused the hotel to fall last year. Seventy-two people died.

People are angry about this. The families of the dead people are sad. They want to ask the European Court for help. They do not think the court in Turkey was fair.

The Isias hotel was in Adiyaman city. It fell in 2023. Police looked for who was to blame. They wanted to know why the hotel was not strong. But the court in Adiyaman let the six people go.

This is not like before. Last year, the hotel owner and builder were found guilty. The families say the six government workers are also to blame. They think the workers were not careful.

The families want all twelve people to be blamed for causing death. They think this is a more serious charge. It means people could have saved the dead.

A helper in the government, Sifa Colakoglu, helps the families. She wants all twelve cases together. She thinks this will show how government workers and builders worked together.

Colakoglu said, "We want government workers to be careful." She also said, "Seventy-two people died because of one paper. There are many buildings like this." Many people think the court made a mistake. They hope for justice.
