Nikos Christodoulides is the new President of Cyprus. He has many hard jobs. His wife, Philippa, leads a social program. Many more people are giving money to this program. This is good.
The President's work with other countries is hard. Leaders in Turkish Cyprus and Turkey are not happy. They do not like what he says.
The social program got more money in 2023 and 2024. This is more than before. We do not know why. But it started when the President began his work. Some groups want to know about the program.
President Christodoulides spoke to the European Parliament. He talked about the island being split. Turkish Cypriot leaders did not agree. Unal Ustel said the President was wrong. He said the President did not tell the full story. Ustel called the past events a "legal peace operation."
These strong words show big differences. It is hard to agree. It is hard to find a way to fix things.
President Christodoulides wants to move forward. He will try new ways to solve problems. He will talk with leaders. He will also offer friendly ideas. He recently met with Tufan Erhurman. He also spoke with María Ángela Holguin. She will visit Cyprus next week.
But Turkey does not want good changes. Turkey did not like the President asking Turkish officials to join EU meetings. This shows Turkey will not change its mind.
