A group of important leaders from the European Parliament visited Cyprus on Monday. They will stay for two days. The visit is because Cyprus will lead the Council of the EU in 2026.
The leader of the group is Roberta Metsola. She met with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. They talked about plans for 2026. Cyprus is a small EU country, so this job is a big responsibility but also a good chance.
The officials discussed many topics. These included safety in the region, energy, and digital change. Later, they answered questions from journalists.
On the next day, the group met with Cyprus's own parliament. They also spoke with young people at a school in Larnaca. The students asked the officials many questions.
A government spokesman said the visit shows that Cyprus is an important part of Europe. Cyprus said it is ready for this big job. The visit helped Cyprus prepare for its important role next year.
