Work has started on an old mosque and school. This is in the Limassol area of Cyprus. A special committee is watching the work. This committee works for both sides of the island. It helps save old buildings in Cyprus. These places have many memories. Now, they are being protected.
Ali Tuncay leads the committee. He said work began in Ayios Thomas village. This village is old and important. Many Turkish Cypriots lived there before. Now, a few Greek Cypriots live there. Mr. Tuncay wants to be fair to all. He respects all cultures on the island.
The European Union gives money for this. The United Nations gives help too. The committee will work in other villages. They will fix mosques in Koilani village. They will also fix ten more mosques. Five are in Paphos and five in Larnaca.
Fixing old religious buildings is important. The committee also saves old houses. They will fix old walls in Famagusta. They are also saving old water channels. Many people are helping with this work. Mr. Tuncay thanked everyone. This helps keep Cyprus's history alive.
