Health officials in Gaza say that more than 70,000 Palestinians have died in the war. This sad news comes even though a truce, or stop in fighting, began on October 10th. The truce is not strong, and fighting still happens sometimes. People also continue to find dead bodies in destroyed buildings.
The number of deaths is from the Health Ministry in Gaza, which is run by Hamas. Big international groups use these numbers, but Israel disagrees with them.
For example, last Saturday, an Israeli drone strike killed two young brothers in southern Gaza. The boys, Fadi and Juma Abu Assi, were eight and ten years old. They were looking for firewood for their family when the missile hit them.
The Israeli army said the strike was against people who crossed a security line. They say their actions are necessary because of truce violations. But the deaths of the two boys make people question these actions.
It is hard for outside reporters to check the numbers because they cannot enter Gaza. This causes arguments about the true number of deaths. For the people in Gaza, the difference between a truce and war is not clear, and they continue to live in a very difficult situation.
